Presentation Ceremony for Gold Coast Institute of TAFE

On August 13th 2009, The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence (The Institute) held Presentation Ceremony acknowledging the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE (GCIT). The Cookery School at GCIT was awarded Three Gold Stars, the highest level of recognition in the Star Rating Scheme.
There are 13 teachers at the Cookery School, all highly qualified with extensive industry experience that provides a quality learning outcome for every student. Many of the teachers have worked for some of the world’s leading organizations both locally and abroad, and are passionate about growing the next generation of industry leaders.
The Cookery School currently has 250 students who will soon be applying their expert skills in restaurants, cafes and hotels on the Gold Coast and surrounding areas, interstate, and internationally; something that is sure to have a positive influence on tourism generally.
CEO of GCIT Deb Daly, was presented with their Three Gold Star plaque by Brian Wexham, CEO of The Institute. Also in attendance was The Hon. Peter Lawlor, Minister for Tourism and Fair Trading and Member for Southport, who congratulated the GCIT Cookery School on its outstanding award. Ben Hirsig, a commercial cookery apprentice at GCIT, spoke in brief at the presentation about his training experience at GCTI. Click here to see Ben’s speech.
Prior to the presentation Mr. Aaron Devine, led a tour of their outstanding cooking facilities at the Ashmore Campus, including the two training restaurants Boulevard Bistro and Visions; the latter being the GCIT fine dining restaurant. In addition to the two restaurants there is a bakery which is also open to the public and is stocked with croissants, cakes, pastries and breads.
